I was poking around the web, looking for references to wor sue duck (almost none, but plenty of references to wor shu duck) and found this old thread discussing Americanized Chinese dishes people liked. The discussion continued for a good 14 months, and seems as topical today as it did two years ago.

Not gonna lie – I actually like/make some of those dishes on certain occasions. Did I just lose all of my food blogger street cred? š

It was pretty clear in the thread that some of the dishes identified as “Americanized” may have authentic roots. And to be plain, when I was young, I *loved* chop suey and chow mein.
Heck, Tony Bourdain did a whole show on ‘forgotten’ restaurants and Gene Lee started a thread on the topic as well.
Then you have this whole wor sue/wor shu duck thing.. authentic or 1950s kitsch.. I don’t know.
What was it that Pauline Kael said one time? “Americans love their kitsch,” was the comment, I believe.
