Little Mexico Bar and Grill is located in a strip mall that contains a Firehouse Subs and a Gamestop on 124, near the Pharrs Road intersection, opposite the mall with the theater. This is a location that has lost restaurants in the past, and I’ve quietly wished it well. A guest reviewer on Darla’s blog, Snellville Eats, gave it an excellent review and so I hadn’t felt a huge need to review it. But recently they mass mailed flyers with a 15% off coupon, and I suspected Little Mexico could use a little more exposure.
As it turns out, on Tuesdays they have a $1.00 taco special.
Inside, they have a small space carved off as a bar and a general seating area. There is outdoor seating for those who like that. They have a good red salsa they serve quickly with chips.
The service is good and there was plenty of it. There are good looking items on the menu, including their fish tacos, steak burritos, and a carnitas burrito, but I decided on some of those $1.00 tacos and their hot and spicy burrito in a lunch portion.
The taco was a decent thing, with ground beef, lettuce and cheese. I preferred the hot and spicy burrito. It was a huge burrito and it was stuffed with a mix of beef, rice, beans and onions. The burrito had some noticeable heat and spice. I liked it a lot, but afterwards was left really wanting to try their pork.
About their menu: although everything seems familiar, most of the items are original menu options and not copied from the common “Atlanta Tex Mex” repetoire. And if you ask, they’re likely to cook up something on the spot. I ended up asking about carnitas tacos and had I asked before ordering, I would have ended up with three of them. This is a restaurant that will work with you if you don’t immediately see what you want. And that’s absolutely worth noting.
Verdict: Original Mexican dishes presented attractively. Highly recommended.
